Hello, this is Alan Osmond. The Family is the fundamental unit of society.
Nothing can compensate for failure in the home.

In today's media driven world and as the father of eight (8) sons, I find it challenging to maintain the same traditional family values that my parents taught me and that I want to pass on to my sons and grandchildren. As we pursued a career in the entertainment industry and tried to maintain high standards of decency, we often got our values challenged. We were able to avoid the many pitfalls of the entertainment industry and we were grateful to our parents for their examples and teachings that gave us confidence to be who we were. When the media and the press would charge us as being "goody-goody", "clean cut", and "squeaky clean Utah Mormons", there were great people like Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin, Andy Williams, Larry King and many others that would defend us. This has taught me great lessons that I hope my posterity will always remember . . . that it is okay to be good . . . that we have the "power to choose" . . . that we are all God's kids . . . and we need to endure to the end.

Please add your story to our blog so we all can learn from each other how to "Strengthen Families". Here is a picture of my family. Please share some stories and pictures of yours.

I think that it is important in this day and age especially to promote strong family values. You always hear about the bad things that kids do, but little about the positive things that happen. There are a lot of great kids that make the right decisions and you never hear about them. Excellent website.

I really like thefamily but ever since you changed the home page I can't figure out how to get into the members section. There used to be a calendar, etc. and you could get into your account, e-mails etc. I asked two different people on the phone at thefamily and they didn't know either. Can you do something about this?

Hello, thanks a lot, You'v done a great job.I can only realize how much time and resources does it take to create such a resource!Great work, I am impressed!

When I first became a fan of The Osmonds I was drawn in by the harmonies and how all your voices blended so beautiful together. I was impressed as a very young girl, after all these years, over 3 decades "that impression" lasted because I was so inspired by your family values and strong faith. As a wife and mother myself and about to be "a Grandma", I instilled in my children my family values and faith also. I couldn't be prouder of my kids. It was hard when they were growing up to help steer them away from what could have been wrong paths. It was so amazing to see when they reached 17 or 18 yrs. old
they were such honest, caring, and
sincere people. I think if you stick with the values you cherish and do not waiver that children learn from that. Also a lot of prayers! Thank you for being such an inspiration to your fans around the world. God Bless, Barbara, New York

YOUR FAMILY IS SO AMAZING. I HAVE RAISED MY FAMILY IN THE CHURCH WITH GOOD VALUES. 3 OF MY ADULT CHILDREN STILL COMPLAIN THAT I SHELTERED THEM TOO MUCH. I STILL HAVE 1 SON AT HOME WHO IS 5 YEARS OLD. I DO NOT WANT TO "SHELTER" HIM AS I SEEMS I HAVE THE OTHER 3 BUT I STILL WANT TO PROTECT HIM FROM THE VULGAR THINGS THAT ATTACK OUR FAMILY VALUES.
I ALSO HAVE M.S. THE WORLD CRASHES DOWN ON ME AT RANDOM. I TRY TO DRAW MY STRENGTH FROM THE SCRIPTURES BUT IT CAN BE SO SO HARD TO LIVE THIS LIFE. I ADMIRE ALL OF THE GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS YOU'VE MADE (ALAN) AND HOPE THAT THIS TRIAL YOU ARE ON CONTINUES TO KEEP YOU HEALTHY. I'LL BE BACK TO THIS SITE OFTEN.

I tried to register on your site as I have an interesting story that came across my missionary mom site today about how all of your music touched someone and eventually led them to join the church. I thought you might want to hear about it but am unable to email you

I am a convert to the Church back in '75..went thru the Temple in '95..that changed alot of my thinking and life became different, but good!!! I have 6(3 boys-3 girls)children and 30 grands and soon to be my 4th and 5th greats..I have a story to tell about my sister(I'm the only member)..she smoked since she was 12 and has a disease called Beurger's which is of the blood..her feet were completely black to where the toes were like dried raisins..she was given a blessing the night before they were to amputate her feet..the next morning, the Doctor pulled her covers back and my sister shrieked(she's deaf) so loud..told me to look at her feet..toes were pink and upright..no surgery..and to this day are OK!!! The Power of Love from our Father in Heaven and our Savior, Jesus Christ...I also have a powerful picture and a story behind that if interested..

In order to preseve family values, we must be strong ourselves and be clear what we believe. Actions alwasy speak louder than words. It ww think of ourselves a Christians it is up to show the world by example. If we do not believe in stealing, then we do not take office supplies at work. If we believe in following the law, we do not speed in our cars. If we see someone who is going thru a tough time such as a divorce we do not make self righteous judgements because a true Chrsitian knows that we do not judge. In tough family situations, unless we are directly involved, making judgements or assumptions is not following Chrsit's teachings at all. we are to love everybody...we pray for people who are in these situations...we have to be vigilant in our education of issues and get the complete picture before we make a decision...if we are true peacemakers then we love our enemies...we do not denigrate their looks, culture or religion. Words can hurt, so we must bemindful of what we are about to say and how we say it. The Osmonds have always had a great burden placed on them. They have been cast in the bright spotlight as the epitome of family values and they have done a fantastic job in staying true to what they believe in. I have had the opportunity to meet severla Osmonds and have never heard any of them EVER say negative things about others or their culture or religion. However whether you are an Osmond or a Jones, we need to remember that we are all fallable humans and it is unfair to be held to perfection. I am sure any Osmond could tell you that they have had several challenges in their lives. But really if we are doing what we are supposed to be doing which is minding ourselves and our own lives, then we will have very little time to judge the "faults" of others. We are not placed on this earth to be perfect but to strive towards being perfect.

I have always been an admirer and fan since the D&M show. Marie has truly been amazing to doing so many things professionally, as well as being Mom. My question is, do any of the Osmond wives "work outside" the home -at all, or to what extent?

Anonymous said...

For my entire life the Osmonds have been there as an example of good in this world. We know it's not only Donny & Marie (although they ARE my favorites!) but also the entire family. God Bless You All.

Marie was SO GOOD last night on Dancing With The Stars. Marie - if I made as many head moves as you I would also faint! I kept saying to myself, "she has 8 kids?"! WOW. She is as beautiful today as when I first saw her over 4 decades ago. Also, I try not to judge people and certainly cannot second-guess her decisions in life. If I could have lead HALF my life as decent as her, I would surely have a ticket to heaven. Good Luck Marie - We Love You!

yes and we need to make sure when we all go to the polls on election day that we elect the candidate that represents good morals and common decency. Remember if they can't run their own home they can't run a country.

I'd sort of lost track of the Osmonds until I started making a family history DVD and needed to find some appropriate music for the period. Wow, your websites are great. I appreciate the focus on family and what our faith can bring to the world.

I had a HUGE crush on Merrill when I was a girl, and he's even better now! (Apologies to his wife! LOL)

Alan, I also have MS and appreciate your foundation and also your great spirit and attitude! This is liveable. If I can do it, anybody can!

Marie, you GO girl! DWTS is the only TV program I record to watch when I get home from work. Hope you win....

Best wishes to you all from a Utah Girl!

Dear Osmond Family,
I was deeply saddened when I heard the news of your father's passing today. Marie has brought the Osmond Family back into the hearts of everyone by her wonderful performances on Dancing With The Stars. She is as beautiful as ever! What a beautiful tribute on last night's show (11-5-07) to your parents. That is the first thing I thought about when I heard of your father's death.
May God continue to bless your family abundantly as you go through this time together.
May God comfort you all.

He can go to be with God and know he did an amazing job of teaching morales and values in all of his children. You seem to be an amazing family. May God be with all of you in this time of sadness.

Good morning - I just read about the passing of your father and family Patriarch George. I am deeply saddened for your loss and yet know that he is in the presence of our Heavenly Father and what a glorious day this is for him. It is because of your mother and father and your family that I Too am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and have raised my sons in the church. I grew up with the Osmond brothers and learned through your families example what family really is and strive to keep my family together for now and through eternity. I know this Church is the True Church and I look forward to the day we are all together with our brothers and sisters in Heaven. Thank you for using The Plan on your site. I lost my record many years ago and didn't realize how wonderful it is and how much it impacts me everytime I hear. Again - my prayers are with you and your family during this difficult, yet glorious time.

I am a simple man of 42,raised in poverty and am currently raising four wonderful children. I am a decorated paramedic for 22 years. My only hope in this life I have been blessed with is to leave my children as blessed as your father, has left you.
This is not a time to mourn , but a celebration of his love for his children. I am sure he was proud of all of you. Mr.George Osmond has led many fathers by example. In this he has never been in the background, upstaged by pop music or bright lights. Many of us follow the music of a different drummer.
Mr. Osmond was simply a Dad, I hope I can be that kind of Dad.

While cleaning I found a picture of myself with your Mr.Osmond and was sorry to hear of his passing. Being the the mother of 5 sons and a daughter I understand the value of family and the difficulty that we are confronted with daily in raising them in a positive enviroment.
I remember into things in meeting your family how down to earth they were and how it broke that bubble of fantasy and also how we all have the ability to be.. whatever to be is. Coming from a dysfunctional family in someways reading about your family as a child allowed me to adopt the vision of how life should be... we all have trials and triumphs, it is how we confront them that separates the survivors from the.......

So i have never search for your website before today. Your family was a huge part of our life, entertaining us with several television specials and shows. But i write this to share with you that I am the very proud mother of 5 almost completely grown children. I have raised my family as a single parent but never alone. My sisters were a major support in my life and i am grateful for all they have done. However my father my primary and strongest support. i lost my father 2 years ago on December 12th 2005. Though the moment was one of the saddest i have ever experienced, it was also one of the most strengthening for me. My dad taught me so much about the strength of family and the power of character that to carry on his values is the best way i can carry on and honor his life.
When I heard about your father's passing, i couldnt help but think how sad you all feel, but at the same time, how special and honored you must feel to have had him in your life to live his teachings of family values and love.
Know my heart goes out to each and every one of you ( i still cry almost daily when i think about my dad...mostly though they are tears of gratitude for having blessed with him in my life.)
find strength in each other.. and find peace for he lived a blessed life with all of you.

with heart felt sympathy

Your family is an ispiration to me. I understand your joy and sorrow as I have lost my dad and brother in the prime of their lives. Without the Gospel,I would be lost!
I grew up with six brothers and one sister. We were a very musical family as well. We are scattered all over the US now and how I miss performing, especially with my twin brother.
May a also say that Marie has been a special strength to me. I too am going through the turmoil of divorce after 18 years. How true your words are...I wish my parents could raise all the men out there! I have six daughters and stuggle alone to raise them in righteousness. It is hard but worth it. I'll gladly climb that mountain with you rather than crawl in a cave!
Thanks for spreading your goodness in a world of mixed values.

I just wanted to say I'm sorry for the loss of your dad......I have lost my daddy also (2004) and like Marie, my daddy was my rock and my best friend. I am a single mom of two boys and I don't know what we would have done without the love and support of my parents. I grew up watching Donny and Marie.....I'm the sane age as Donny and have loved ALL of you. I really enjoyed seeing all the "clan" on Oprah. Good Luck on your tourand May God Bless.

First, let me say that I am so sorry for your loss. I will be turning 50 years old next year and feel like I've grown up with your family. I was out of town on business last week and had to tape the Oprah show. As I watched it this weekend with my 10-year old granddaughter, and answered her many questions about the Osmonds, I realized how timeless the Osmonds are...not only from an entertainment standpoint...but from a family values standpoint. I was proud to tell my granddaughter all that I could about your family. Please keep entertaining us and teaching us to love and honor our families. You are truly an inspiration to all.

With heartfelt thanks,

Linda

I feel that I have grown up with your family. I just turned 51 on Saturday. The strength of family is what keeps you going through the tough times in life and who you can share your joys with. With all the negative music on the market today, it is your music that puts a smile on my face and takes me back to a time that was truly family oriented, less hectic and a much slower pace. Your voices are still strong and beautiful as is your entire family. Your appearance on the Oprah show brought tears to my eyes for many reasons. I too have lost a parent and it is difficult, but coming from such a loving family, all my memories are happy ones. The words to your music are inspiring and joyous. Just to see all the good you have brought to the public is wonderful. You have never changed your music to be "with the times". I just could not imagine any Osmond family member singing negatively especialy about family. Keep up your music, keep up your faith, and just love your family. I hope you tour on the east coast as I would love to see you perform in person. God bless you all.

First, let me say, it's good to be back after a 14 year hiatus in which I got married and adopted five sons. Alan always teases that I'm trying to raise an "Osmond" family of my own. Unfortunately, my boys don't sing quite as well as his do! It's good to come back and see so many familiar names. I've missed you all! I'm going to be helping Alan out with this blog, keeping updated posts and checking the responses to make sure this remains a family-friendly site. In the meantime, please know that Alan and his entire family appreciate the messages you have been leaving both here and in the newspaper listings regarding the recent passing of their father.

Bad things happen...even in good families. Our son died by suicide at the age of 27. He struggled with drugs and alcohol. This is the last two verses of a song I wrote and have copyrighted: "Lord, I know there'll be no answer, no message from above. Still, I know your love is greater than any mother's love. So I put my trust in you, Lord, his soul is in your hands, and I believe that he's an angel, that he's still your little lamb." God is our refuge and our strength!
