Donny and Marie sign for new show on Vegas strip

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Donny and Marie Osmond will perform in a variety show at the Flamingo Las Vegas hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip beginning in September.

The brother-sister duo, who starred in the "Donny & Marie" variety show in 1976, will play Tuesday-Saturday shows for 26 weeks spread over eight months at the Flamingo Showroom, a hotel official said Friday.

The 90-minute show, beginning Sept. 9, will be presented by Danny Gans and Chip Lightman of GansLight Entertainment. It is being billed as a greatest-hits multimedia spectacle on a custom stage with multiple video screens and a cast of dancers.

"My version of a variety show has been what Vegas has known thus far," said Gans, an impressionist and comedian who has long played in Las Vegas. "What we have now is a true variety show which conveys the real essence of America and the country's love of homegrown talent."

Tickets, which are priced at $85, $99 and $115, go on sale Monday.

In the 1970s, Donny and Marie's musical family, The Osmonds, shared the marquee at the old International hotel with Elvis Presley. The International is now the Las Vegas Hilton.

"Donny and Marie are timeless entertainers and cultural icons," said Don Marrandino, president of Flamingo Las Vegas.

The Osmonds to Join Mormon Tabernacle Choir for Pioneer Day Concert

SALT LAKE CITY — The Osmonds—America’s favorite family of entertainment—including the Osmond Brothers, Donny, Marie and Jimmy—will be featured as guest artists for this year’s Pioneer Day Concert by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square.

The concerts will be presented on Friday, 25 July and Saturday, 26 July at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Center on Temple Square. Mack Wilberg, music director, will be conducting.

“We are honored and pleased to have the Osmond Family join us as guest artists for our Pioneer Day concert this year,” said Mack Wilberg, who will direct both the Choir and Orchestra on the concert. “The members of this wonderful musical family are true pioneers, not only as Latter-day Saints in the entertainment business but also as landmark recording and performing artists and so they are a great fit for this concert. We have planned a program that showcases the Choir and at the same time features some of the wonderful music the Osmonds are famous for.”

“This has truly been an amazing year for our family,” said Jimmy Osmond, youngest of the Osmond brothers. “After performing to sold-out concerts all over the world, there is no better grand finale for us to celebrating our 50 years of entertainment than to return home to UtahTemple Square is a great personal honor for us.” where it all started with the four original Osmond Brothers. Being invited to perform with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at

The concert will be a retrospective on the Osmond’s musical legacy and will feature not only musical highlights from throughout their careers but will also take advantage of the multi-media capabilities of the Conference Center to show video passages from their past performances.

Ticket Information

Free tickets for these concerts are required. Because of the anticipated high demand for tickets to this event, tickets will be distributed through the random selection process used last year for Christmas concert ticket requests.

Those interested may register on the Internet at www.lds.org/events for the opportunity to receive tickets starting Saturday, 24 May, at 12:01 a.m. through Monday, 2 June, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. Those without Internet access, may register over the phone at (801) 570-0080 (local) or at 1-866-LDS-TIKS. All registrations received during those ten days will have equal chances at receiving tickets in the random selection process.

Not all registrations will be selected to receive tickets, and only one registration per household can be accepted. The maximum number of tickets that a household may request will be four. Tickets will be mailed to those selected shortly after the registration process closes. Patrons not selected to receive tickets will be notified by e-mail.

Standby tickets for those without tickets will not be issued. However, patrons are invited to stand by for last-minute seating both evenings. The standby line will form at the North Gate on Temple Square at 6 p.m.

The doors of the Conference Center will open at 6:00 p.m. The length of the evening performance will be approximately 90 minutes. Seating is limited to those 8 years of age and older. Guests are asked to allow extra time for travel and parking in order to be seated 30 minutes before the performance begins.

Nathan Osmond Introduces uPlej

Edmund Burke once said, "Nobody makes a greater mistake than he who does nothing because he could do so little." That is why I have joined uPlej. I believe a little bit goes a long way. "Give a little bit!" I come from a family of entertainers called, The Osmonds. You might remember them from the 1970s. I got my start on the Donny & Marie Show as a child and have been singing ever since. I've had success in Europe and in Asia and I am currently working on my debut country album. I guess you could say, "I'm a little bit Country!!!" Ha! (See nathanosmond.com for biography)

I would like to personally invite you to JOIN MY uPlej NETWORK to help me raise money for several charities that are near and dear to my heart.

My grandmother Osmond was the one who started the CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK. I have been in the hospitals and have sung for those children. They are an amazing charity and I would like to help support their cause.

I am also supporting AUTISM SPEAKS because my oldest son is on the autism spectrum. I called up the founders of Autism Speaks the other day just to say thank you for all they have done to educate us about autism and what we can do to help our son.

I have also selected ONE HEART as one of my charities. For 12 years they have served as an umbrella charity and voice peace for good causes. Their entire mission is to unite charities by being of "one heart." We are all God's kids and it is important to strengthen "The Family."

By JOINING MY uPlej NETWORK, you can choose the charity of your choice and get involved. By so doing, you are supporting the charities that I have selected. Please spread the word. Together we can be somebody's silent hero. My grandmother, before she passed away, said something that resonates with me today. She said, "It's amazing what we can accomplish when we don't care who gets the credit." How true!!! Please join my network TODAY and together, let's do some good.

God bless,
Nathan Osmond

Donny and Marie to Honor Moms on TV Show

By FRAZIER MOORE

NEW YORK (AP) — Donny and Marie Osmond will help salute the nation's moms as co-hosts of an NBC special scheduled for Mother's Day night, the network and Teleflora, the program's sponsor, have announced.

On "America's Favorite Mom," airing May 11, the Osmonds will crown a winner chosen online by viewer polling. The program will mark the holiday's centennial.

"When the concept was first presented to us — Donny and Marie on a Mother's Day special — I thought, `Oh, everybody's gonna need an insulin shot,'" said Donny during a phone interview with The Associated Press. "But we're not just talking about traditional moms. It shows real moms in real situations, and with some of them, you think: How do they do it?"

"They're empowering for other women," sister Marie added. "They inspire other mothers to say, `I'm not alone. I can get through this, too.'"

Nominations are being accepted through April 25 in the categories of single moms, working moms, stay-at-home moms, unconventional moms and military moms.

The 15 semifinalists will be profiled on NBC's "Today" show the week before Mother's Day, enabling the audience to choose the most deserving. The winner will get cash and prizes valued at "thousands of dollars," Teleflora said.

Donny and Marie, who since childhood have sung professionally both with and without their large family, recall early Mother's Day observances as somewhat nontraditional.

"We were touring," Donny said.

"It was the NON-holidays when we got to celebrate things," Marie agreed. "But mama was always honored in our home."

Besides their co-hosting duties on the special, Donny and Marie will do a musical number.

"Marie picked out the song," Donny said.

"It was a mutual decision," she argued.

So what's the song going to be?

"I don't know," Marie teased.

Message from Jared Osmond

Hello, Jared Osmond here. I want to thank you for taking the time to read this.

Years ago I came across the ugly reality of child abuse. It's all around us. There the great need to get involved. National Statistics are that 1 in every 3 children will be abused before they turn the age of 18.

One of the most alarming stats are that of Sexual Abuse. 1 out of 3 girls and 1 out of every 5 boys will be sexually abused. These are only the 'reported' cases.

10 kids are pulled out of their homes in Utah County every day
because of abuse. This is an epidemic. It's happening everywhere.

I found that there was a place where little kids that are abused here in Utah are taken. This place is called the "Family Support and Treatment Center." It is a humble and wonderful place that has a workload that is now so overloaded with these little clients that there is a 3 month waiting list. These children and parents receive counseling to help them heal, and to help them break the chain of the abuse cycle.

There is a crisis nursery there. Children who are pulled from their homes because of abuse can find refuge and protection. The staff are out in the schools every week teaching kids how to cope and how to escape child abuse. There is help! There is hope. This is a what life is all about. Taking care of the little ones that God has placed in our care.

It is my pleasure and desire to serve and help this organization and help them to bless the lives of these little kids.

On May 5th we are putting together a Gala to help them. Some of my family and I will be there to sing and perform to raise money for the this incredible foundation.
